The Irish Government introduced a benefit-in-kind Tax break in January 2009 which supports employers in providing employees with bicycles and safety equipment in order to cycle to work. The Tax break offers you savings of up to 47%* on a bike supplied to you through your employer. Under this scheme, bicycles and safety equipment can be purchased Tax-free up to the value of 1,000. Safety equipment can be included within the 1,000 limit. Your bicycle and safety equipment can be paid for over a maximum 12 month period.*Savings depend on your rate of Tax. The bike scheme was introduced on 1st January 2009 to encourage people to cycle to work more frequently.The bike scheme allows for an bike and accessories up to a value of 1,000. The bike is purchased by your employer, but the details of the arrangement are left up to you and your employer.
